CHICAGO – Echoes & Reflections, a resource for Holocaust educational materials and content, announced 60 educators, were selected for its two summer advanced learning programs.
Among them were Mariella Fernandes from Whitewater Middle School and Kathleen Cunningham from Community House Middle School. They were chosen out of 253 applicants.
“These seminars give educators who already have a working knowledge of the Holocaust an opportunity to develop a more personal connection to what they are teaching,” said Sheryl Ochayon, Yad Vashem’s program director for Echoes & Reflections. “The empathy and stronger knowledge base they build during these experiences carry over into the classroom and help educators convey to students that the Holocaust is a human story – part of our shared human story.”
Fernandes and Cunningham will attend the seminar in Jerusalem, Israel this summer.
Applications for the 2020 seminars are expected to open later this year. Visit www.echoesandreflections.org/advanced-learning-programs for details.
