CHARLOTTE – Jay M. Robinson Middle not only hosted the 2019 Middle School Forensics State Final on March 23, but the school was crowned state champions.
Five students also won individual state titles: Taran Puvvala, humorous interpretation; Sami Pyndi, extemporaneous speaking; Susan Chemmanoor, original oratory; and Clay Patton and Vivek Rao, public forum debate.
Students performed memorized literary works in interpretation competitions; presented their own persuasive speeches in original oratory; and argued for or against hot topics, such as paying down the national debt, in public forum debate.
Students participating in extemporaneous speaking came prepared to speak on three topics, including the Mueller Report and immigration, but didn’t know what questions they would draw. They had 30 minutes to prepare a persuasive speech.
