The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education (BOE) unanimously approved a superintendent search timeline at its May 24 meeting, with the hopes of confirming a new superintendent by March 2017.
The BOE selected McPherson & Jacobson, a Nebraska-based firm, in April and had its first meeting with the firm on May 18, in which members identified the most important qualities in superintendent candidates.
The timeline calls for advertising the position in September and October; semi-finalist interviews in January 2016; and finalist interview in February 2017.
Community involvement will take place in September, with BOE members identifying stakeholder groups, as well as the firm providing open community forums. Nonprofit MeckEd plans to help out with this effort.
“Community involvement is an important part of the selection process,” Mary McCray, BOE chairperson, said in a news release. “We are working to further develop a community engagement plan once the finalists are identified. We look forward to advancing this work collaboratively with staff, parents and all members of our Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.”
