The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education (BOE) approved the 2017-18 academic calendar at its May 24 meeting that includes time off for Rosh Hashanah and less flexibility for “snow days.”
The calendar options was a hybrid of a previous option for the calendar, along with feedback from the community in an online poll.
This calendar allows for 176 instructional days, opposed to 177 in the other options, but still complies with state standards for 1,025 instructional hours. However, the superintendent would only be able to waive up to three days to preserve instructional time.
Parents can expected more teacher workdays, time off for Rosh Hashanah in September and a two-week winter break.
