CHARLOTTE – Arts+, formerly Community School Of The Arts, a nonprofit focused on making arts education more accessible, brings its monthly Saturday music program for kids to The Bridge, located at 4100 Raleigh St., on Nov. 16.
The 1,800-square-foot space near the NoDa neighborhood serves as the organization’s temporary creative arts lab. The theme for November’s Musical Saturday is Fall Frenzy, focusing on all things autumn.
The two-hour-long workshop will include singing, instrument play and fall-inspired arts projects for 3- to 7-year-olds and their caretakers. The cost is $8 per child.
“We are extremely excited for this Musical Saturday program as it is a great entry point for young children to explore their interests and curiosities about music,” President and Executive Director Devlin McNeil said. “We provide many different activities each month so that students can try new instruments, learn new skills and explore varied topics.”
The schedule includes SingPlayMove (10 a.m.), Discovering Percussion (10:30 a.m.), Fall Crafts (11 a.m.) and Musical Storytime (11:30 a.m.).
Research has shown being exposed to music at an early age can affect language development, social and emotional skills, gross and fine motor development and memory.
“This pre-school and early-elementary age is critically important for developing fundamental musical and artistic skills, and we are thrilled to be able to be a place for students to learn and grow,” McNeil said. “As these students spend more time in music, our hope is that they find a home in our Arts+ programs as private lessons students, group class students, or Charlotte Children’s Choir singers.”
