This past spring, Bryanna Hames had a stellar season for the Myers Park High School girls track and field team. As a sophomore for the Mustangs, Hames won the Southwestern 4A conference championship in the discus and was third in the Class 4A state meet with a distance of 120 feet, 2 inches.
Hames actually has gotten better this summer.
Hames qualified for a spot in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in Baltimore, Md., where she placed fifth with a personal-record throw of 125-6 on July. 28. The rising junior competed in the Intermediate division (ages 15 and 16) at the meet, which featured more than 8,000 athletes from throughout the country in a number of events.
To qualify for the Junior Olympics, Hames took first place in the state meet in Durham and second place in the regional competition in Newport News, Va.
Hames also was a first-team honoree on South Charlotte Weekly’s 2012 Girls Track and Field Super Team.
