Providence Day senior girls tennis player Gabby Gabriel has signed a National Letter of Intent with Appalachian State University.
Gabriel inked with the Mountaineers on May 9 during an on-campus ceremony in the Mosack Athletic Center as her family, Providence Day coaches and teammates looked on.
“Gabby will continue to blossom in college because of her love for team tennis and willingness to work harder than anyone,” Chargers coach Ryan Harper said in a PDS news release. “She was an integral part of two state championships at Providence Day School in 2009 and 2010. Appalachian State University is fortunate to have such an amazing athlete and amazing personality on their campus.”
Last fall, Gabriel helped the Chargers to their second consecutive N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A championship. She also was named to Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group’s Girls Tennis Super Team for the second year in a row and earned NCISAA All-State honors.
