People drive crazy on Monroe Road, especially along the stretch in front of my office and my unofficial office (Arby’s).
Drivers are willing to risk their lives turning left onto Monroe Road with five lanes of traffic whizzing by. Then you have pedestrians, some of which with children, darting across the street.
The road was backed up last week after a lady was killed in a collision. Two months ago, a homeless guy trying to cross the street was struck and killed.
You’ve probably seen reports on WBTV and WSOC-TV this week about residents near Carolina Place Mall putting signs up to discourage drivers from speeding.
I wish people drove down our streets as if their loved ones lived on them.
Yustin Riopko and Charlotte Smith have joined our staff as summer interns.
Riopko, of Matthews, studies communications at Western Carolina University. Smith, a Lexington native, majors in English literary studies and minors in psychology at UNC Wilmington.
I’ve been impressed with their attention to detail and initiative.
Summer fun alert
Next week marks the 80 Days of Summer edition of South Charlotte Weekly. This guide seeks to put an end to the phrase, “There’s never anything fun to do in Charlotte.”
You’ll find concerts, festivals, outdoor movies – things stick-in-the-muds like me tentatively say we’re going to attend but give a reasonable excuse for not going in a well-crafted email the night before.
