CHARLOTTE – Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson is leading an effort to raise money and awareness for the local Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs.
“Shaq Thompson’s Tackles for Kids” is a pledge campaign based on his season-long on-field performance.
Proceeds from the campaign benefit the local clubs, which provide academic, recreation, arts, character development and life skills programs for kids largely in at-risk communities.
Eight clubs serving more than 1,700 members in Mecklenburg and Union counties. The campaign raised more than $18,000 for club programming last year.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte is a really great organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of young people through all of its programs,” Thompson said. “And since sports have been so influential in my life, I’m excited about helping raise much needed funds and awareness for the sport programs that the clubs offer to its members.”
Individuals are encouraged to visit www.pledgeit.org/shaqthompson to make a pledge for each tackle Thompson makes during the season to help support The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte.
Contributors making pledges of at least $1 per tackle, or a flat donation of at least $40, will be entered to win a football signed by Thompson. Contributors of $5 or more per tackle, or a flat donation of $50, will receive a custom-designed T-shirt.
“This campaign goes beyond football,” Thompson said. “It’s about giving to those who truly need and deserve our support.”
