Many candidates running for mayor, city council, school board seats and other elected positions for all townships within the county, including Charlotte, were present at the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections promptly at noon today to file their intentions to run in the upcoming election. All candidates, some running as Republicans spoke at a press conference before filing began, went through a simple process to file. They each signed an affidavit of their intention to run, paid a modest filing fee, filled out information forms, and spoke their names into a recorder to make permanant public record of how each of their names are to be pronounced. Officially filing to run effectively begins their public campaigns for this election season. Expect to see more candidates enter the race in coming days as the filing window remains open until July 21.
