The Pineville Police Department announced Thursday morning its Criminal Investigations Division continues with an ongoing homicide investigation from the evening of Monday, July 11, at 122 Olive Street in Pineville.
A 911 call was received on Monday that a shooting had taken place inside the home. Pineville Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a diseased female, who was the victim of the homicide.
The deceased female is 54-year-old Lorene Potter Simpson. Her assailant, who officer say they still will not release the name of, was still on the scene when officers arrive and sustain self-inflicted injuries to his body and was rapidly transported to a local Charlotte hospital where he remains in stable condition.
“Lorene Potter Simpson did know the assailant, this was not a random act, and we are not actively searching for additional suspects,” Lt. Corey Copley reported. “The nature of the relationship between Miss Lorene Potter Simpson and her assailant remains open and ongoing and his name won’t be released at this time pending further investigation and the outcome of his injuries.”
Charges of the assailant also are still pending.
Copley said the police department cannot conclude its interviews with the assailant due to his significant injuries and current condition in the hospital.
Police are still continuing the investigation and meeting with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.
