Rash of break-ins hit business complex

LightsPolice are investigating after a number of businesses were broken into this week on Johnston Road.

The seven businesses are all located inside the McGregor Downs Associates Building, located at 10801 Johnston Road. Police say someone broke into the building late Sunday night, Feb. 9, or early Monday morning, Feb. 10, and proceeded to break into the businesses inside, according to incident reports.

Doors were kicked in at all the businesses, which include Balance By Touch Massage Rehabilitation, Fusion Dental, Grogan-Edwin Associates, Kathy Barr Counseling and Consulting, Scott Development Group, Sexual Intimacy & Relationship Enrichment and Young Accounting Services. At least $1,380 in goods were stolen, including speakers, a television and $400 worth of sex toys, according to multiple police reports, and a $300 gumball
machine was damaged.

Police declined to release any additional information as the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s South Division released its crime stats for January, which show mixed results. Car break-ins dropped in Response Area 1, which ranges between Fairview and Pineville-Matthews roads, after January 2013 saw a string of 31 car break-ins. Car break-ins also dropped in the rest of the division, while home break-ins slightly increased in Ballantyne. See a complete breakdown of January’s crime to the left.
