CHARLOTTE – The Students Against Violence Everywhere Promise Club at Harding University High is one of 20 chapters in the Carolinas to receive a grant for preventing youth violence.
“This grant will allow Harding’s SAVE Promise Club to deliver more powerful messages to the school’s students and staff about preventing violence,” said Joi Strayhorn, Harding’s club adviser.
The SAVE Promise Clubs are a partnership between SAVE and Sandy Hook Promise, a national organization working to prevent gun violence. It was formed by family members of the students and teachers killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012. Funds will be used to educate students and school staff on how to prevent youth violence and create safer schools and communities.
Strayhorn was trained in providing effective violence-prevention solutions as part of the grant.
