Sara has been volunteering with the Greater Charlotte SPCA since August, after losing her own dog.
“My dog was so special to me I wanted to help other dogs around the community,” she said.
While working to help dogs become adopted with the SPCA, she planned a supplies drive with her Mu Alpha Theta Club at school, as well as her neighborhood through the NextDoor App.
She was able to collect more than 100 dog supplies, including toys, crates, towels and leashes to provide to foster homes that house dogs before they’re adopted. Sara said many of the foster families have dogs of their own, as well as house multiple foster dogs, so they are often in need of supplies.
“I’m a big animal lover and helping these dogs find a family and be in their forever homes and not just living on the streets is important to me,” she added.
She suggests other students leverage their school clubs to raise awareness about their favorite causes and encourages the community to volunteer with the SPCA.
