Charlotte Latin prepares students for global citizenry
Globalization is the name of the game at Charlotte Latin School. In fact, it’s integrated in every aspect of the school’s culture, with a longstanding history of a commitment to diversity.
The TK-12 independent, college-preparatory school seeks to create prepared citizens of the world through building character, personal responsibility, respect for one another and leadership.
The school has an honor code, “Honor Above All,” which hangs in every classroom.
Students also are encouraged to explore their world through global studies and study abroad programs. The school also has eight international sister schools.
Elective courses and extracurricular activities are available on an age-appropriate basis, and students are encouraged to explore their interests in the arts and athletics, as well as master their academic subjects to develop a balanced educational experience.
There is a 10-to-1 student-teacher ratio and 21 Advanced Placement classes are available.
The school was recognized as a Common Sense Digital Citizenship Certified School in 2016, which attested to its effort to create a community approach to developing students into digital citizens.
The school also has one of only seven certified Fab Labs in the U.S., in which students explore modern invention under the guidance of four instructors.
Students earned 22 Scholastic Art and Writing 2016 Gold Key Awards and $7.7 million in college merit scholarships to 71 seniors in the class of 2016.
The school has an enrollment of 1,400 students, with 90 percent of seventh through 12th grade students participating in athletics.
