Charlotte Jewish Day School caters to full spectrum of faith
Charlotte Jewish Day School reflects the growth of the Jewish community in the greater Charlotte area.
The school started small in 1988 and has grown into the premier community day school for Jewish families.
CJDS reaches families across the spectrum of Judaism and allows each family to explore their “own path of Judaism.”
The K-5 school, which has a student enrollment of approximately 92 students, commits to scholastic work with Jewish undertones.
The day is divided 65 percent in general studies and 35 percent in Judaic studies and Hebrew language, with many opportunities to integrate the two curriculums.
The school seeks to educate the whole child through small class sizes (12:1 student-teacher ratio) and through a dual-language curriculum allow for the development of critical thinking skills, Hebrew immersion and a love of Judaism.
“CJDS remains committed to maintaining and preserving the values and principles that inspired us to create our school,” the school wrote on its website. “Our graduates will become the leaders of tomorrow, equipped with a powerful scholastic, ethical and religious foundation, and confident in their unique strengths, talents and ability to make a difference in their communities and the world around them.”
Students also participate in various clubs and have traveled to Israel, enjoyed overnight trips to the Atlanta Zoo and the Myrtle Beach Aquarium, and talked with government leaders at the Capitol in Raleigh.
The school reports students’ standardized test scores are comparable to and even surpass students at area private schools. Many graduates are invited into honors programs in public schools and are accepted into area private schools, according to CJDS.
Graduates attend both public and private middle schools.
CJDS also participated in the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship program, in which students who might not be able to afford private school can attend the school through government supplements.
