Two south Charlotte schools were honored last week for their achievements in health, nutrition and fitness excellence.
Ardrey Kell High and McKee Road Elementary received HealthierUS School Challenge Bronze awards for improving the overall health of their school environment. The program is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture, and is a key component in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation.
Schools that participate in the program adopt USDA standards for food they serve, agree to provide nutrition education and ensure opportunities for physical activities.
A school-wide assembly was held at McKee Road April 26 where they received the award.
