‘Cyrano’ comes to stage
CHARLOTTE – “Cyrano” tells a heartbreaking story of love and war, with music by David DiChiera and script by Bernard Uzan.
Based on the beloved play “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand, “Cyrano” is a critically acclaimed personal telling of a beautiful young woman who unintentionally falls in love with the wrong man.
The title character, played by John Viscardi, is an outstanding writer and swordsman in love with Roxanne, played by Magali Simard-Galdés. Fearing Roxanne will not love him because of his unsightly nose, he allows another man to use his words to woo her.
“This score is one of the most complex pieces of music I’ve ever had to learn and Cyrano is a character with wonderful depth and color,” he said.
Opera Carolina presents “Cyrano” at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Belk Theatre. Call 704-372-1000 for tickets.
