Editor’s note: If you don’t want to be spoiled as to the outcome of the July 24 episode of Food Network’s “Dessert Games,” then you may want to just read last week’s restaurant inspections instead. Otherwise, enjoy.
CHARLOTTE – Brittani Brooker impressed judges with creative culinary techniques to win $10,000 on the Food Network’s “Dessert Games.”
Brooker, a pastry chef at the Ballantyne Country Club, competed against three other chefs in the show’s third episode, which aired July 24.
She was nearly eliminated in the first round, which had contestants make a “transformative dessert” using pasta, ricotta and basil. Brooker’s ricotta panna cotta with basil chocolate malto powder impressed judges with technique, but didn’t pack enough basil, according to judge Nancy Fuller.
The second round challenge required making an ice cream sundae with ingredients like avocados, popcorn kernels and beef jerky. Inspired by bacon, Brooker created ice cream in a churro bowl with strawberry-candied beef jerky. Judges thought she pulled off the candied jerky well.
In the final round, Brooker made a deconstructed banana crème pie that emphatically won Fuller over, as well as the grand prize.
Brooker said the $10,000 will go a long way toward her dream of opening up her own bakery.
